Students in Spanish I have the chance to become familiar with the Spanish language and culture of the Spanish speaking people. They learn the basic grammar of the language and at the end of the year are able to speak, read, and write simple Spanish. Their vocabulary includes objects and events encountered in daily life such as numbers, days of the week, months, weather, greetings, farewells, relatives, animals, etc. Basic grammar and sentence structure in the present tense is taught. Students are also introduced to culture through videos, field trips, Spanish speaking guests, cooking, etc. which involves them in all aspects of a foreign culture and language.

| Students in Spanish II are offered the opportunity to become further acquainted with the Spanish language and culture. Advanced grammar is taught with concentration on use of the present, preterit, and imperfect tenses. Future and conditional tenses are introduced. Students are encouraged to read, write and speak the language. Field trips, guest speakers, videos and cooking are all used for cultural experiences to learn about Spanish speaking countries and the Hispanic people. Pre-requisite is Spanish I with a C or better average before taking Spanish II. | |

| Spanish III & IV | Year Course |

| Spanish III and IV are designed for independent study. Students continue advanced grammar working with drills and writing assignments. All verb tenses are reinforced and the subjunctive mood is introduced. Students have a folder of special projects which is done on a weekly basis and preparation for the project is done daily. Project examples are Spanish computer program designing, term papers, teaching grade school students Spanish, reading Spanish short novels, etc. Students are evaluated on these projects by the Spanish instructor and any other teacher involved in the project. Pre-requisite is Spanish I, II, (III). Students should have a C or better average in Spanish II before taking Spanish III or IV. | |
