The Morrisonville Board of Education met on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at 7:00 PM in the Unit Office. The following Board members were present: Ed Goebel, Bob Gowin, Gerry Goebel, Bryan Fesser, Dale Brockamp and Ann Ganther. Also present were Superintendent Dave Meister and principal Ann Little.
The Board of Education held a budget hearing beginning at 7:00 pm. Mr. Meister talked briefly about the budget and noted that the budget had not changed since it was first presented to the board in August. The Board adjourned the budget hearing and went into regular session.
Mrs. Schmedeke, had 2 members of the high school student council at the meeting to talk about things they have been doing within the school district. Members present were Kara Fesser and Sarah Williams. The students talked about their new Thursday morning coffee bar and the districts efforts to raise funds for hurricane relief.
Adam Mathias from LMHD, CPA firm presented the Board of Education with the FY17 audit. He explained the district's state financial profile score and the findings of the audit.
There were no committee meeting reports.
Mrs. Little reported that the school year has started smoothly. Several MHS/JHS teachers have acquired their food handlers licenses and are serving hot breakfasts to the students as opposed to having them come to the grade school for breakfast. She noted that attendance is up for breakfast so far this year. All of the Jr/Sr high MAP tests have been administrated for the beginning of the year and the curriculum committee has begun meeting to discuss and plan based on the outcomes of the measure. She also noted that attendance at the Lincolnwood volleyball game was good and that the fundraiser for Grace was a big success.
Mr. Meister informed the Board of Education of the need for a half time aide for this year's 1st grade classroom. It is a large class that has 29 students. Because of the dynamics of the student population extra help is needed in the afternoons. The superintendent also talked about the district's 1:1 computing agenda. He has proposed the district purchase two chromebook carts, one for each building as soon as QNS completes the installation of the wireless access points throughout the district. He hope they will be installed by the end of October.
Lela Ferrill and Paul Stutz reported to the Board about their plan for the Jr/Sr class trip to Washington DC.
Students leave after school on October 31st and return back to Morrisonville on Sunday Nov. 5th, most likely very late. Each student will be required to do a presentation on one of the several monuments they will visit in DC. The group plans to visit the Capital and hope to meet up with representative Rodney Davis during the visit.
The following action was taken by the Board during the meeting.
The next regular Board meeting will take place on Thursday, October 19, 2017 at 7:00 PM.
